At the VM level, the VM assigns a fixed amount of the available processing power to the individual application services (task units) that are hosted within its execution engine.
For the purpose of this paper, we consider a task unit as a finer abstraction of an application service being hosted in the VM.
Figure 4(a) presents a provisioning scenario, where the space-shared policy is applied to both VMs and task units.
Therefore, VM2 can only be assigned the core once VM1 finishes the execution of task units.
The same happens for provisioning tasks within the VM1: since each task unit demands only one core, therefore both of them can run simultaneously.
